Sonkyo Energy is certified to ISO 9001:2008 for the "Design and Manufacture of Small Wind Turbines", awarded by LRQA, an international certification body and subsidiary of Lloyds Registers.
The distinction was awarded in October 2010 and constitutes international recognition of its development of small wind turbines, such as Windspot, the Sonkyo Energy turbine that uses a variable pitch system to adapt to wind speed.
To obtain ISO certification, the company has had to undergo an audit of its quality system, which was conducted in two phases.
During the first, the design of the management system was studied to confirm that it conformed to ISO 9001:2008 and the scope of certification, and to verify the management elements.
The second phase, conducted last October, checked the implementation of the management system for the design and manufacture of small wind turbines and confirmed its compliance with the certification requirements. At the end of this phase, LRQA recommended issuance of the certificate.
On its own initiative, Sonkyo Energy works with government agencies to have our small wind turbines undergo independent testing in order to certify the actual power curve of the turbines and their reliability.
We know that, despite its small size, Windspot is a great wind turbine, which is why we are working to obtain independent certification to show, using real hands-on data, that Windspot is the ultimate winner because it actually does what others only promise to do.
Sonkyo Energy is also working on the creation of three test fields in Cantabria, in different environments: marine, mountain and urban, where our small wind turbines are tested to determine their reliability and productivity. It is here where we test the innovations of our R&D&i team.
Here is a selection of the agencies we work with:
SEPEN
SEPEN (Site Expérimental pour le Petit Eolien de Narbonne) is an independent research center in the Languedoc-Roussillon region whose main aim is testing small wind turbines between 1Kw and 10Kw capacity. SEPEN has already tested wind turbines made by some of the most important manufacturers in the world. The test results are published in its website and are available for everyone upon receipt of the manufacturers consent. The main points which the test focused on are safety, reliability, productivity and noise.
SONKYO ENERGY trusts SEPEN for the certification of its own small wind turbines.
SEPEN has tested the WINDSPOT 3.5 small wind turbine prototype for on-grid connection during 7 months.

CIEMAT
CIEMAT (Centre for energy, environmental and technological research) is an organization belonging to the Ministry of Science and Innovation. Their tasks involve certifying the real performance of small wind turbines. Sonkyo Energy, on their own initiative, is negotiating rigorous testing of Windspot with CIEMAT to certify its productivity, reliability and noise.
We have obtained power curve results of the test carried out according AWEA 9.1 standards. The turbine being certified is a WINDSPOT 3.5 kw. The test site is located in CIEMAT facilities in Soria (Spain) in association with Intertek for the completion of the certification. The AWEA 9.1 certification will allow the turbine to be eligible for all the incentives and financial benefits in the USA.
The results demonstrates Windspot’s power curve, annual production and reliability of the machine.
During this test, the turbine was operating continuously during the time the data was recorded.
The excellent results obtained show that WINDSPOT small wind turbines are a world leader in the small wind industry.
CIEMAT´s certification of our power curve is part of the certification of AWEA 9.1 in the USA and Microgeneration Certification Scheme in the UK.
